Frequently asked questions
Clear answers on how we collaborate, engagement structures, and what to expect from an initial advisory consultation.
What does a hospitality consultant do?
A hospitality consultant helps businesses identify opportunities to increase revenue, improve commercial performance and create a stronger, more sustainable business model.
I work with hospitality businesses including hotels, wedding venues, events venues, members’ clubs and destination-led businesses. This can include developing commercial strategy, increasing revenue, improving sales performance, opening new markets, diversifying revenue streams and helping leadership teams make better commercial decisions.
My approach is practical and commercially focused, combining strategic thinking with hands-on experience of running and growing hospitality businesses.
Do you offer fractional support?
Yes. I provide fractional Director support in the form of Commercial Director or Managing Director and interim commercial leadership support for hospitality businesses that need experienced senior commercial expertise without necessarily appointing a permanent Commercial Director.
This can include commercial strategy, revenue growth, sales and business development, marketing alignment, partnerships, performance management, team coaching and supporting the leadership team.
Fractional support can be particularly useful for hospitality businesses going through a period of growth, diversification, repositioning or change, or businesses that need senior commercial expertise but don't currently require a full-time Commercial Director.
Fractional support can start from as little as £750 a day depending on contract lenght and location.
What types of hospitality businesses do you work with?
I work with a broad range of hospitality and destination-led businesses, including hotels, wedding and events venues, members’ clubs, rural venues, heritage properties, restaurants and hospitality groups to name a few.
I also work with businesses looking to diversify their offer, develop new revenue streams or improve their overall commercial performance.
Can you help a hospitality business increase revenue?
Yes. I help hospitality businesses identify where additional revenue can come from and turn those opportunities into practical commercial strategies and results.
This might involve improving sales conversion, developing new markets, increasing midweek revenue, improving pricing, creating new partnerships or making better use of existing space, assets and capacity.
Can you help a venue diversify beyond weddings?
Yes. Diversification is a key part of my consultancy work. I help venues assess their existing assets, customer base, proposition and operational capacity before identifying commercially viable new markets and revenue opportunities.
These can include corporate events, private hire, accommodation, retreats, wellness, filming and location hire, among others.
How can you help a venue attract more corporate clients?
I help venues develop a stronger corporate proposition and identify the markets most relevant to their location, facilities and existing assets.
This can include identifying target customers, developing the sales strategy, improving the proposition, creating new packages and building a practical plan to generate corporate enquiries and bookings, particularly during traditionally quieter periods.
How does your hospitality consultancy work?
I start with a conversation about the business, its current challenges and what you are looking to achieve.
Depending on the requirement, I can provide a focused commercial review, strategic consultancy project, ongoing commercial coaching or fractional/interim commercial leadership.
The objective is always the same: to identify the commercial opportunity and then help turn it into measurable action.
What does a hospitality consultancy project cost?
The cost depends on the scope, complexity and length of the engagement. Focused one day commercial consultancy projects typically start from £1,750, while larger commercial reviews, strategic projects and ongoing fractional or interim commercial leadership are priced according to the level of support required these rates start from £750 per day depending on contract lenght and location.
I always recommend starting with a conversation about your objectives and challenges so I can suggest the most appropriate approach.
Why work with an experienced hospitality consultant?
I bring hands-on commercial leadership experience from across hospitality, events, wedding venues, members' clubs, heritage venues and destination-led businesses.
My career has included senior roles with LEGOLAND Windsor, heritage venues including Lillibrooke Manor and Stanlake Park Wine Estate, and The Conduit, an impact-focused members' club in London. I've worked across commercial strategy, revenue growth, sales, partnerships, events and business development, helping businesses unlock opportunities and build sustainable revenue streams.
I don't simply provide recommendations. Where appropriate, I work alongside owners and leadership teams to turn commercial strategy into action.
The value of experience is knowing where to focus, what questions to ask and which opportunities are worth pursuing. Rather than spending significant amounts of time and money testing ideas through trial and error, you can draw on more than 20 years of industry knowledge to make better-informed decisions, avoid costly mistakes and accelerate progress towards your commercial goals.
My approach is honest, practical and focused on creating lasting value for your business.
What is the difference between a consultant and a Fractional Commercial Director?
A consultant typically helps a business identify challenges, uncover opportunities and develop a strategy or action plan. A Fractional Commercial Director provides ongoing senior commercial leadership on a part-time basis, helping shape priorities, lead teams, improve performance and deliver sustainable growth.
At Jonny Bann Consultancy, I offer both approaches, depending on the needs of the business. Some clients benefit from a focused commercial review or a defined project, while others need ongoing support to implement change, strengthen their sales and marketing activity, or provide experienced commercial leadership without recruiting a full-time director.
Having worked across hospitality, wedding venues, events and membership organisations, I understand the balance between strategic decision-making and the practical delivery required to achieve results. I'll work with you to identify the right level of support for your business, its objectives and its stage of growth.
How do you measure the success of a consultancy engagement?
Success starts with understanding what your business needs to achieve. Before recommending a solution, I work with you to establish the commercial challenges, opportunities and priorities, then identify the outcomes that will make the greatest difference.
Depending on the engagement, success may be measured through revenue growth, improved enquiry conversion, increased average booking values, stronger sales pipelines, higher customer retention, new revenue streams or better use of existing assets and resources.
For fractional leadership engagements, this may also include improved team performance, clearer accountability and more consistent commercial reporting.
I believe consultancy should deliver more than recommendations on paper. My approach combines commercial insight with practical implementation, helping you turn opportunities into action and track progress against agreed objectives. The measures will reflect your business and its priorities, rather than a one-size-fits-all set of targets.
Can you help a business implement recommendations, rather than just provide a strategy?
Absolutely. My approach is hands-on, focused on helping businesses move from identifying opportunities to making meaningful commercial progress.
Depending on your requirements, I can work with you and your team to implement recommendations, improve sales processes, develop new revenue streams, refine your commercial positioning, strengthen business development activity or introduce greater structure and accountability across your organisation.
Support can range from a focused commercial review with a prioritised action plan through to a defined implementation project or ongoing fractional commercial leadership. I can also work alongside existing teams, providing experienced direction, practical support and an independent perspective where it's needed most.
With more than 20 years of experience across hospitality, wedding venues, restaurants, events and membership organisations, I've seen the difference between having a good strategy and successfully delivering it. My focus is on helping you identify the right opportunities, bring your team with you and build sustainable commercial growth that creates lasting value for your business.
